Why I chose Cargill.....

Bernard Smith - Plant Manager
Cargill Beef Australia,  Tamworth, NSW

I joined the Cargill Team  in 1999 as the Plant Engineering Manager at Tamworth, during my first six years I was very fortunate to be involved with the expansion of the Tamworth facility as we grew the business from a small processing facility to today being one of the best in class facilities processing 800 grass-fed yearling cattle per day for the domestic and export markets.

I took over as Plant Manager in 2005 and continue to enjoy the exciting challenges that we are faced with both domestically and internationally.

Cargill is a fantastic company that offers great career opportunities as well as supporting the development of their employee.  One of the best things  working for Cargill is the collaboration between different business units and the focus on growing the business.

Jody Scaife - Merchandising Manager Oilseeds

I joined Cargill in 1995 as a graduate chemical engineer, accepting a role in our West Footscray oilseed crushing plant. For the next five years I enjoyed engineering project, maintenance and production manager roles as well as numerous short term assignments in all of our Australian oilseed crushing plants.

Following the closure of our Brisbane plant, I chose to broaden my business experience and accepted my first commercial role as Account Manager for protein meal.  I have remained in the commercial field holding leadership roles in sales and marketing as well as commercial business development for our refined oils division which was established in 2007. I am now Oilseeds Merchandising Manager working with a passionate team of professionals committed to creating value for our customers.

Friends often wonder why I have stayed with Cargill for my entire career.  My response is simple, why would I leave, I have had many job and location changes, each offering new and exciting challenges and experiences. I choose to stay with a global company that is profitable and growing, that continues to invest in my development and is aligned with my personal views and aspirations.

Catherine Capponi - Maintenance Supervisor
Footscray Plant

I have worked for Cargill for 9 months and my role is to manage maintenance activities at the plant. I enjoy embracing the challenges that my role as Maintenance Supervisor offers and the cross training that I receive at the plant from learning about other team members' roles. Which not only enables us to cover for each other but also provides opportunity for development.

One of the best things about working for Cargill is its investment in employee career development and the company's support to make the most opportunities that arise throughout their careers I enjoy the challenges that my role as Maintenance Supervisor offers and the cross training that I'm receiving at the West Footscray plant from learning other team members' roles. Not only does this enable us to cover for each other but it is also an opportunity for growth. Opportunities to recognize the achievements of employees are never missed at Cargill and this is a powerful motivator
