Cargill Cares: Supporting a worthy cause in Brocklesby
At Cargill, we believe in making a difference in our communities. Through our Cargill Cares initiative, we were honored to donate $2,000 to support an event that showcased the power of community spirit and generosity.
David Schilg, a local farmer from Brocklesby, NSW, is battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND), often referred to as "the beast." Diagnosed less than a year ago, mind and spirit remain strong.
On June 1st, over 100 growers from areas such as Walbundrie, Henty, Oaklands, Balldale, Corowa, Albury, and Osborne came together to support David.
David’s sons, Jordan and Luke, along with the local community, formed The Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock Crew to raise awareness and funds for MND. Despite initially aiming to raise money for David, he insisted that all proceeds go towards the MND Foundation to help find a cure.
Businesses from the region donated money, auction items, and raffle packages. After a senior football game between Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock and Rand-Walla Walbundrie, local legends and community members braved an old-school metal slide into an ice bath, dressed in costumes for added fun.
The crew initially set a goal of raising $50,000, which was quickly surpassed. They then raised the bar to $75,000, and to their amazement, the total reached a staggering $156,552, with donations still coming in. What an incredible achievement by everyone involved!
This event highlighted the incredible support from the local farming and sporting communities, with thousands attending to support this great cause. We at Cargill are proud to have played a part in this inspiring effort.
