Cargill SustainConnect™
About the Sustainable Canola Program
Cargill is launching a sustainable agriculture program called SustainConnectTM to help farmers connect with new and emerging markets. This program aims to support farmers as new carbon markets emerge and the world looks to agriculture to help solve climate change.
Cargill is helping canola growers adopt lower carbon farming practices by providing compensation, access to technical support, simple enrolment, data collection, transparent measurement and verification options. We are providing farmers access to new and emerging markets giving them the opportunity to earn money for their work as custodians of the land.
Partnering with industry
Cargill is partnering with Regrow to drive the Cargill SustainConnectTM Program. Through this partnership, Regrow leverages its capabilities across remote sensing, crop & soil health modelling to enable Monitoring Reporting & Verification (MRV) of the outcomes achieved by growers as part of the program.

Frequently asked Questions
Who is eligible for this program?
To be eligible to the program you must grow a canola crop on land that was being farmed before December 2007, adopt an intervention that has not been used on previous canola crops grown in that paddock, and register for the SustainConnect program. Your Cargill Grower Registration Number (GRN) will be used as a unique reference number. There is no minimum/maximum hectare requirement for practice changes.
How long is the contract period?
The contract period for the SustainConnect program will cover 1 cropping year – starting from when you sign the contract (before 1 April) and ending 31 March the following year. We look forward to learning with you and partnering in a long-term effort to reduce carbon emissions. If you choose to continue with the program you will have the option to change the enrolled hectares each year.
What Interventions are included?
Once you have selected the fields to enroll in the program you will be asked to select an intervention (from the list below) that must be new to your canola rotation.
Available interventions
- No Till
- Reduced Till
- Cover Crops
- Incorporate Legumes
- Stubble Retention
- Organic N Substitution
- Variable/ Reduced rate
- Split Application
Can I participate in this program if I am already in another program?
To avoid double counting, fields enrolled in the SustainConnect program cannot be enrolled in other privately funded or Carbon Offset programs. However, this program can be stacked with public/government program payments if eligible.
Do I have to sell my canola to Cargill?
No. You will still be able to sell your oilseed as you have in previous years.
If you grow canola as part of the Victory Canola program the conditions of that contract will still apply.
